Lee's Hill is on the north side of Fredericksburg, off I-95 at US 17, in a natural setting along Massaponax Creek. The golf course was built on and around one of General Robert E. Lee's campsites during the Fredericksburg Campaign of 1862, and several landmarks are still in view today.
The golf course is a challenging shot maker's layout where course management is at a premium as the holes are bordered by woods, creeks, ponds, wetlands, and sand bunkers. The course is set on hilly land, producing frequent uneven lies and confounding the club selection decisions to the small, well-bunkered greens. It was designed by Bill Love of Ault, Clark, and Associates and plays from 6,834 yards, 72.1/136, course/slope ratings at the tips with three shorter tees.
