The Gauntlet is located north of Fredericksburg off I-95 at US 17, around the lake at Curtis Memorial Park.

The golf course is a challenging layout carved through the deep forest over rolling and sloping fairways. There are a generous number of shapes and sizes of sand bunkers, multiple water features, and a variety of contoured green complexes. The front nine is more challenging, with water hazards on eight holes, blind shots, and severe doglegs, while the back nine mellows a bit. The course was designed by P.B. Dye and is a 6,857 yard layout from the tips, 72.8/140, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
