Mattaponi Springs is east of I-95 in Ruther Glen in a secluded setting surrounded by fields and forests.

The course traverses a large 330-acre tract of land with unique and isolated fairways along creeks, ponds, and wetlands. It features numerous elevated tees dropping down to the landing areas along sloping and rolling fairways lined with beech, oak, holly, and pine trees. The course was designed by Bob Lohmann and is 6,937 yards from the back tees, 73.9/141 course/slope ratings, and has four shorter sets of tees.
