Great Oaks CC is on the north side of Floyd on US 221, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, about an hour south of Roanoke.

The layout is a parkland-style design over rolling hills and along tree-lined fairways throughout. There are a few ponds and streams in play, sand bunkers primarily greenside, and quick and undulating greens of all sorts of shapes and sizes. Gene Hamm designed this pleasant and playable layout in the late 1960s, which plays to 6,437 yards from the tips, 70.8/124, course/slope ratings with three shorter tees.
