Auburn Hills is south of Christiansburg, just off I-81. It was built over an old dairy farm in the rolling hills of southwest Virginia.

The golf course's layout combines open links with tree-lined fairways, providing a variety of interesting holes. The greens are large and undulating and of moderate speed, and a change in elevation provides numerous elevated tee boxes to the fairways below. The course was designed by Algie Pulley and plays to 6,534 yards with a 127 slope from the tips. The white tees are 6,057 yards, 69.5/122, course/slope ratings.
