Wanango CC has one of the more unique histories related to its architectural pedigree. Tom Bendelow and Donald Ross were responsible for the initial nine holes in 1913, with Bendelow and A.W. Tillinghast adding the second nine in 1917. The modern-day equivalents would be Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, and Tom Doak!
The course is between Oil City and Franklin on the north side of the Allegheny River, surrounded by trees in a completely natural setting. The layout is a stiff challenge with tremendous character and interest. It's a parkland-style design over slightly rolling contours along narrow fairways, with inventive use of sand bunkering mostly defending the modest, raised greens. It's not a long course at 6,134 yards, par 71, 69.6/123, course/slope ratings from the tips.
