Trails West is on the Fort Leavenworth Army Base, located on the Missouri River's west side, 35 miles north of Kansas City along the Glacial Hills Scenic Byway.

The layout follows tree-lined fairways over slightly rolling terrain with a modest use of sand bunkers and several water features with mid-sized, oval greens. There are four sets of tees; the white tees are 5,369 yards, 67.6/117, course/slope ratings, designed by Tom Bendelow.
