Tenison Park is a classic, Dallas municipal golf course about 10 minutes from downtown with two 18-hole layouts.
The Highlands' front nine is somewhat pedestrian, while the back nine has a host of impressive holes with varying degrees of elevation change along the tree-lined fairways. The layout has five water hazards and a moderate amount of sand traps, which are generally greenside. From the tips, it's 7,078 yards, 73.7/130, course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, designed by Jack Burke and Syd Cooper in 1925 with a redesign by D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolfard.
The Glen is a more playable parkland layout along tree-lined fairways, with White Rock Creek winding its way through the golf course. Ralph Plummer redesigned it, and from the tips, it plays to 6,607 yards, 71.8/119 course/slope rating,s with four shorter tees.
Tenison Park was originally built by Dallas banker E.O. Tenison after World War I as a memorial to his son, who died in the war. In the early years, it was known as a hustlers' hangout, with Titanic Thompson and Lee Trevino working the course.
