Pinewood is about 30 minutes north of Tomahawk and 20 minutes northwest of Rhinelander, moving over a large, natural tract of land.

The golf course is a pure Northwoods layout, with the front side a modest warm-up for the 600-yard-longer backside. The routing provides for broad, tree-lined fairways over slightly rolling contours, with water in play on half the holes overall. It plays to 6,233 yards from the blue tees, 70.4/117 course/slope ratings with three shorter tees, designed by Al and Marie Bromann, Jr., in the 1960s.
