Penn State has two 18-hole courses located in a park-like setting on the southwest side of State College and Campus.
The Blue Course's fairways are lined with mature hardwood trees over mostly level terrain, with sand traps guarding the greens and several water hazards. From the back tees, it plays to 7,219 yards, 75.2/138 course/slope ratings, and four shorter tees. Two Penn State graduates, James Harrison and Ferdinand Garbin, designed the initial nine holes in 1970, and Ault Clark added an additional nine in 1994.
The White Course is a classic parkland-style design that traverses narrow, tree-lined fairways leading to modest greens well-defended by sand bunkers. It's much shorter at 6,328 yards from the back tees, 71.1/129 course/slope ratings with three shorter tees. The original nine holes were designed by R.D. Pryde and Bob Rutherford in 1921, with an additional nine designed and redesigned by Willie Park, Jr. in 1926.
