The Eagle Springs Golf Resort is 45 minutes southwest of downtown Milwaukee on the western shore of Eagle Spring Lake, surrounded by fields, forests, and marshland.
While it's a short nine-hole layout, its history is not brief. It's recognized as Wisconsin's oldest golf course, having originated in 1893 and later redesigned as a 9-holer by Chicago White Stockings (now Cubs) pitcher A. G. Spaulding, a founder of the sporting goods company. The golf course layout is a step back in time as it meanders over the rolling Kettle Moraine terrain featuring bowl-shaped, lilliputian greens, blind shots, an island par 3 without water, and the famed "Volcano hole," a par 3 from one glacial drumlin over 134 yards to another drumlin and the green. From the men's tees, it's a par of 36 and 2,814 yards, 66.0/113, course/slope ratings with one shorter tee box.
