Cottonwood is 45 minutes west of Scottsbluff on the west side of Torrington.

The golf course has a parkland layout carved through cottonwood, with fairways lined along the fields and woods bordering the North Platte River. The front side is fairly straightforward and more open off the tee, while the back side is 200 yards shorter, with narrow corridors requiring accuracy off the tee and on approach to the greens. It was designed by Leo Johnson in 1959 and is short at 6,262 yards from the back tees, 69.0/126, course/slope ratings with two shorter tees.
