Birdsfoot is located 45 minutes northeast of downtown Pittsburgh between the Allegheny Valley Expressway and Buffalo Creek in Freeport. It is named for the birdfoot trefoil, a flowering ground cover that covers the golf course.

The course is completely isolated in the rolling hills without houses or development along the holes. It's a blend of links and parkland-style holes with broad fairways, several water hazards, and a variety of shapes and sizes of sand bunkers. It's a challenging and enjoyable mix of interesting holes playing to 7,044 yards from the black tees, 74.4/137 course/slope ratings with four shorter tees, designed by Ault, Clark & Associates.
